In addition to saving lives, one of the most esteemed prizes of fleet risk management is to enjoy the benefits of reduced claim frequency. For this reason (and others), the whole subject has climbed the corporate Agenda and now warrants specific attention. Due to its multi-disciplined nature, reducing fleet risk can very often feel like trying to keep three balloons underwater with two hands or indeed trying to keep five plates spinning throughout the insurance year. For fleets, there exists the challenge of applying good safety principles as well as the challenge of implementing them and making sure they function consistently into the future. Much of this is about culture and attitudes but management and administration is just as important. For Brokers, the challenge is to ensure policyholders can evidence what they are doing to reduce risk, to ensure it’s enough and to see it in force consistently so that they can represent their clients at renewal with confidence. Much the same challenges exist for Insurers. There’s a balance to be struck here, between what could and should be done by the fleet and by contrast, what could and should be done by an external fleet risk supplier. The point at which this balance is struck has been changing dramatically as new partnerships have been created in the supply market that offer advances on what can be achieved. One such example is the partnership between PRIM Fleet Standards and RVM. The former is a champion of what needs to be done to reduce fleet risk and the latter is a champion of the practice of implementing risk programs that identify and reduce high risk on behalf of fleets. This potent combination solves the riddle of what to do, how to do it and actually doing it. No longer should a fleet need to buy risk services and keep fingers crossed they deliver. Brokers who are skilled at talking the talk with policyholders can now actually walk the walk. If you’re not sure if your fleet risk strategy still reflects the best way forward, get up to speed with current thinking from Paul or Angela at RVM on 0113 224 8800 or simply email us.
