Most fleets would be surprised to learn that for every 100 drivers there could be between 5000 and 8000 separate items of available risk data that need reviewing, testing and acting upon every year. In our experience, more than 1000 of those data items will exceed acceptable thresholds of risk, form a potential alert and require follow-up action.

These figures assume the fleet checks licences, performs online driver assessments, formally inducts new drivers, manages claims, uses telematics and carries out driver training, which now represent the five principal risk services carried out by well-run fleets.
Of course, not all the alerts will be showstoppers, however, much can be learned from their regularity, severity and causation. Once analysed correctly, it soon becomes clear there is no cure-all solution that can be applied in all cases at all times.
Some of these alerts will be relevant to legal compliance but many others relate to why claims have occurred (or will occur) and therefore what remedies stand the best chances of avoiding excess risk in the future.
Fleet Departments will most likely need to employ extra resource to gather, monitor and action all this data or else bring in a specialist supplier that can do the job quicker, more accurately, more consistently and for less cost.
In reality it is difficult to increase departmental head count but in the face of a serious incident, potential personal liability now awaits those fleets that have had access to all this data but didn’t use it to take the simple steps to mitigate their liability.
Very few specialist fleet risk companies have the ability to absorb the volume, format and scope of risk data and then reliably test it all for non-standard risks, however, if you’d like to talk to one that does, call Paul or Angela or email us.
