| Over the last 6 weeks, we have written about getting back to driving normality, recognising actionable risk data, the impact of driving-safety culture, recognising accident management as an element of a risk program, the importance of driving-behaviour stats and how to handle risk data overload. This week we are looking at the practicalities of consolidating a number of fleet risk services as well as the risk data they generate. To keep things brief, we would suggest the following three tasks as the most challenging that a fleet will be faced with: Pre-existing Risk Suppliers Most fleets have some risk service suppliers in place so they will always be part-way through an existing contract with early termination implications financially and/or operationally. Any risk consolidator would therefore need to adopt those existing suppliers either permanently or until the contracts end and then offer good reasons to switch to an alternative, if that is the proposal. Driver Communication At this point, drivers receive various emails from various sources relating to login details for assessments and training, electronic consent forms for licence checking, joining instructions for training sessions, helpline details for reporting new claims, surveys relating to wellbeing, fitness-to-drive, post-incident enquiries and vehicle condition. A benefit of consolidation would be the chance to bring all risk-related driver communication together through one Driver App such as the Driving Passport App from RVM Strategic Accountability Without true consolidation, it remains a major challenge for fleets to be able to see who is causing what level of risk, why that is the case and how best to remedy the position. This is partly because in terms of risk data it’s hard to see the wood for the trees and also, daily life creates changing circumstances for drivers and businesses. An experienced fleet risk consolidator will spot important issues early and react quickly and proportionately based on what is proven historically to be an effective remedy.
